Healthy Campus and Wellbeing Week: Off-campus

For the past 12 years, the University of Lincoln has celebrated the importance of looking after yourself through a week of keeping active in both body and mind.

Healthy Campus and Wellbeing Week this year takes place from the 5th March to the 10th and offers a variety of workshops, sessions and activities across the uni campus and the full timetable can be found here.

But you don’t have to just attend these events to benefit from a week of being healthy and mindful. Keep reading for my round-up of things you can be doing to help yourself – you never know, some may even become habit.

Casual Gym Session

Going to the gym doesn’t always have to be gruelling and painful. Sometimes you can just head down to the gym with a group of friends (there’s your moral support) and just have a laugh or go on your own with your headphones to block out the world.

And if you don’t want to have to be in a committed relationship with a gym membership, you can always just pick up a day pass when you’re in the mood for exercise. What’s more – exercising increases your serotonin levels, so you’re helping your mental wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing.

Have a Night Off

Uni can get stressful, especially if you have a wild social life and are out every night. But sometimes you just need to take a night off and take a break, whether that means getting an early night or not.

A firm favourite with my friendship group is board games, take a night off and chill out over a game of Monopoly – but be warned that it could put your friendship at risk!

Smoothies

I love a good smoothie and there’s nothing more satisfying than watching the fruit turn into liquid when you make one yourself. If you don’t have a blender then find a friend who does, head down to the shops and grab some of your favourite fruit.

Hire a Bike

The University of Lincoln Sports Centre offers an option to hire a bike, for a set period of time, for a very reasonable price. The surrounding areas of our beautiful city are just waiting to be explored and as soon as the sun comes out I would highly recommend getting out and going on an adventure.

Long Walks

Take some time way from the world and go for a nice long walk. Whether you head up to the Cathedral to immerse in the history of Lincoln or out to the South Common to immerse in some nature, taking time out will allow you to get back a sense of peacefulness.

Arts & Crafts

It doesn’t have to be getting your PVA glue and felt out but getting in touch with your creative side can help to bring you back down to earth. Simply getting a colouring book and a pretty array of pens could be exactly what you need to regain a sense of peace.
