Applying to university

We all have to deal with some pretty stressful times in our lives, but applying to University doesn’t have to be one. Creating the perfect application can seem like more than a bit of a headache, but if you follow a few rules it doesn’t have to be anything to worry about.

The application process is not impossible; once you have your choice of university down, the rest can come down to staying calm and, for lack of a better term, putting your best foot forward.

First things first, the earlier you start the better the chance you have of getting your application in with as few worries as possible. During the process, there’s nothing to stop you from saving what you’ve done and coming back to it another day.

In fact, I would really recommend doing so!

Some of the best advice I can give when it comes to working through the various forms needed is to utilise the “save draft” function.  The application process is not about rushing to the finish line.

If your school or college is anything like the one I used to attend, you’ll have a tutor there to constantly remind you that they’ve been through it all before and they know what they’re doing. Turns out, they actually do.

There’s nothing better than getting as many opinions as possible on your application before you send it off. That way, you can make sure you’ve sent off the best possible pieces of information to advertise you as a student.

One of the hardest things about sending off an application, whether it be for university or for a job, is selling yourself.

For most of us, it’s so difficult to be able to talk for any amount of time about how good we are at the things we do. I felt exactly that way. But knowing how to write about yourself in a positive way is not impossible (trust me).

Try imagining what your friends or family might say about you. How would they describe you as a student or person? I started imagining what my mum would write about me, and it became just that little bit easier to write the perfect personal statement.

Your application doesn’t have to be perfect – nobody will submit something that’s fault free! The important thing to remember is that this process is all about showing off what’s going to make you thrive at university.
