My Winter Traditions

This time of year doesn’t always have to be about Christmas entirely. There are so many other traditions that take place, especially for me personally. I wanted to run a few by you, some that are relevant to Christmas and some that are just generally Winter based!

Winter Wonderland

I’m fortunate enough that my home town is London, and so when I return home every year – me and mum check out Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park as well as some of the other Christmas Markets around town. If you ever get the chance to go to Winter Wonderland, I’d thoroughly recommend it! At the moment, you’re still required to book but some time slots are free whereas others are as little as £5. You get unlimited time inside but allow yourself a good two hours to walk through everything as it does take up the majority of Hyde Park.

There’s a massive selection of fairground rides, market stalls with crafts and whatnot, food stands, and hot drink stalls. There’s also a massive Bavarian Village where you can enjoy Bratwurst, beer and listen to live oompah bands! There’s also a circus, with an ice kingdom and the availability to carve ice (if you prebook) as well as a beautiful ice rink.

Please beware though, if you’re on a student budget – the prices can be a little high so be smart when spending!

Christmas Markets

There are tonnes of Christmas Markets up and down the country. Whether you popped to the one in Lincoln a couple of weeks ago, or are attending local ones like Nottingham, York, Manchester, etc. I like to pop by the ones in Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, admittedly just for the food but their craft stalls are beautiful. Take advantage of photo opportunities as well!

Pantomimes

I strongly believe you’re never too old to enjoy a pantomime. At our age, we can enjoy the humour in it for kids but also laugh and understand perhaps some of the rather rude innuendos. There are so many fantastic pantomimes up and down the country with some superb guest stars.

This year, Lincoln is doing Cinderella at New Theatre Royal. It stars Kerry Katona, her daughter Lilly McFadden, Jake Quickenden, Ian Waite, and Patrick Monahan.

Light Festivals

With the days getting shorter and it getting dark a lot earlier now, many cities and attractions offer Winter light festivals. These vary up and down the country and we always like to visit them. Some of them are Christmas related but many aren’t!

We usually do the Illuminated Castle Wall Walk up at Lincoln Castle every year. It offers stunning photo opportunities, and a chance for you to see a different view of Lincoln. They sometimes offer dog-friendly walks so your pooches can also enjoy the lights too!
