Being a Christian in Lincoln

Hi everyone, I am Sunitha Lazarus, a Master’s student from the University of Lincoln.

Sunitha Lazarus

I am a Christian and when I planned to study abroad my parents asked me specifically to go to a church every Sunday here. So, I started searching for churches in Lincoln when I arrived from India. There are lots of places to choose from, not only in the city but also in the surrounding villages. Many of the buildings are 100s of years old and beautiful to visit for religious and historical reasons.

The University of Lincoln also has a Multi-Faith Chaplaincy and a coordinative chaplain Mr Subash Chellaiah, who supports the students according to their religious needs. For a full list of Multi-Faith chaplains at the University of Lincoln please see: https://chaplaincy.lincoln.ac.uk/about/contact-us/

Some of the local churches near the University of Lincoln that I discovered are:

Lincoln Cathedral:

Lincoln Cathedral is the obvious choice as it is a massive architectural beauty and a unique landmark of our city with a lot of ancient history behind its walls. Although it’s a popular tourist attraction, this is still a place of worship.

RCCG Church (Victory Centre) Lincoln:

Victory Centre, Lincoln is a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). A worldwide Christian organisation that was founded in 1952 in Lagos Nigeria.

During lockdown, I used to attend the online service of RCCG church. They conduct prayers through conference calls and Youth Bible Study through Zoom meetings. Some of our university students attend this church. Also, the church has good pastors and spiritual leaders who pray for your needs and supports you spiritually. The church conducts youth Sunday services and Youth festivals. Now, since everything has come back to face to face, the church has good plans for the youth services to be done in person along with some picnic ideas. The church also has a WhatsApp group for its members so they can communicate and support each other. I always enjoy their online and face to face services since they are lively and spiritual.

ALIVE Church:

Lincoln is a vibrant world-class small city full of life and creativity and Alive Church is no exception. Sundays are full of life, with contemporary worship, inspiring, practical teaching and exciting programmes for kids and youth. Lincoln Central’s address is ~Alive Lincoln Central, Newland, Lincoln, LN1 1XG.

TCM Baptist Church Lincoln:

Thomas Cooper Memorial (TCM) Baptist Church is a gospel centred, Bible based church, on Lincoln High Street, very close to the city centre. Thomas Cooper Memorial Evangelical Baptist Church, or TCM as it is known, has a long association with Lincoln and is a member of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC).

St. Hugh’s Church Lincoln:

St Hugh’s Church or St Hugh of Lincoln Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Lincoln, England. It was built from 1892 to 1893. It is situated on the corner of Monks Road and Friars Lane in the town centre.
