Geocaches in Lincoln

If you are bored and looking for something different to fill up the time, Geocaches can be a fun and unique way to explore places in Lincoln you never even thought about. Here I’ll explain everything you need to know about Geocaches in Lincoln, what they are and where to find them.

What is a Geocache?

A Geocache or a cache is essentially a recreational activity that is similar to a treasure hunt. Individuals use GPS tracking software to track and find a cache which is usually a small container containing a logbook where people write their names and the date and time they found the cache. It’s important that the cache is then placed back in the same position as it was found ready for others. People often also leave behind tradable items in the container. A mobile app can be used to track specific caches. There are all sorts of different types of Geocache which have been developed, the original version simply contains a logbook where a person writes their name, whilst others may lead to another Geocache location which eventually leads to a final cache location.

Geocaches in Lincoln

Along with many other places, Lincoln is full of Geocache locations. Downloading the Geocache app is the best way to get started, type in your location and you will see all of the coordinates represented with a dot on the map. In Lincoln, specifically within the city, there are Geocaches scattered amongst some of the well-known landmarks such as the castle. Spoiling the location completely would ruin part of the recreation, so download the GPS app and get started seeking out locations near you. It is best to go with friends as often they are a lot harder to find than you might think so having that extra help is always handy.

Why hunt for Geocaches in Lincoln?

Due to the nature of Geocaches, the way they are hidden is in order to make the hunt more challenging, so inevitably you come across locations you would never think of going to. This is especially useful if you want to know the city a little bit better as well as being a potentially fun activity to do with friends if you have run out of ideas. With this in mind, perhaps Geocaching is something you would enjoy? Of course, it is also important to always be sure you are safe and careful whilst searching for things and don’t go to a location which may be dangerous to get to etc.
