Affordable activities to do in Lincoln

With summer coming up but budgets being tight as a student, here’s some of my favourite affordable activities to do in and around Lincoln

Walk the castle walls

When exploring uphill Lincoln, along with being able to walk inside the castle grounds for free you can also pay to walk the castle walls. As a student, you can get a concession ticket for £9 which gives you access to walk around the castle walls at your own pace. In doing so, you get great panoramic views of Lincoln and it’s also a great photo spot. If you’ve never done it before, it’s definitely one to tick off the bucket list while you’re still in Lincoln.

Go for a picnic

With plenty of green spaces in Lincoln to choose from, taking a picnic and sitting outside with friends is a great way to pass an afternoon. Whether it’s on the common or at Hartsholme park, make sure you tidy up after yourself and respect the local wildlife!

Explore the city by bike

Cycling is not only a great way to stay active, but also to explore further out areas of the city. If you haven’t got your own bike, you can hire one from the SU to do you’re exploring with. Check out Paige’s video to see here experience using the university’s cycle hire and where they biked to.

Go thrift shopping

Lincoln has an abundance of charity shops as well as vintage stores such as Yak, Rock Retro and Fab Vintage. Not only is this a great way to save money on new clothes and get something unique, it’s much better for the environment and can be a fun day out if you go with your friends.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas on how to spend your free time in Lincoln when you’re on a budget.

We’d love to know any of your suggestions of what you like to do in Lincoln so let us know!
