Autumn leaves and trees

How to get in the Autumn mood

I have always loved the change in seasons. Unfortunately, summer is now over, but that means it is time to embrace autumn.

I have always loved the change in seasons. Unfortunately, summer is now over, but that means it is time to embrace autumn. Every season offers new opportunities and experiences. As much as I love the warm weather, reading my book in the sun, BBQs, and getting tanned, I also love getting cosy under a blanket and drinking a cup of tea with an open fire. There are so many wholesome ways to embrace autumn, here are a few ways to help you get into the autumn mood.

Going for a walk

One of my favourite things to do is to go on a long walk (preferably with a dog) with a hot drink in hand.  Around Lincoln, there are many places to go for walks, such as Doddington, the Arboretum and Boultham Park. It’s nice to get some fresh air, take a break from uni work, and appreciate all the changing colours of the trees. I hadn’t realised how much I’d missed being able to put on a hoodie and wrap up warm without overheating! Enjoy getting your winter wardrobe out and the little things such as wearing your boots for the first time in months.

Cosy nights in

Another one of my go-to activities is a cosy night in. There are certain films and TV shows I associate with autumn, such as Gilmore Girls and all the Harry Potter films. My house and I are making a list of films we want to watch this autumn and will tick them off one by one. There’s something lovely about being under a blanket all cosy on the sofa with a hot chocolate, watching a film whilst it’s raining outside.

Autumn hobbies

This autumn I want to learn how to knit. It is such an autumnal activity and a nice way to wind down. Perhaps give yourself a goal, such as making a scarf for someone for Christmas! TikTok and YouTube are great for finding inspiration and tips. Having tried crochet in the past, I am hoping knitting will be easier! In Lincoln places such as Hobbycraft will have everything you need.

Reading

Why not get into reading this autumn? Recently I have gotten back into reading, and I had forgotten how relaxing it is. It can be hard to find a book that keeps you gripped, but the feeling you have when you can’t put a book down is unmatched. I have been using TikTok to help me find book recommendations. Recently I have read “Everything I Know about Love” by Dolly Alderton which I cannot recommend enough! If you have become out of touch with reading, I would definitely recommend getting back into it.

Pumpkin Picking

One final autumnal activity I want to do is Pumpkin picking. Doddington offers this which is only about a 10-15 minute drive from Lincoln city centre. It would be lovely to carve the pumpkins whilst watching a Halloween film. Perhaps do some baking with the filling, such as pumpkin pie or season and roast the seeds.

I hope these tips help you embrace autumn and get you in the autumnal mood!
