Spooky season is back! With thousands of Halloween films out there from scream inducers to films that will make you laugh so hard you almost die it can often be hard to decide what to watch. If you are on the lookout for recommendations of what to watch this Halloween, then this is the post for you!

1+2) Hocus Pocus 1 and 2

For many, watching Hocus Pocus starts the beginning of the spooky season so if you are hosting a Halloween movie night this is a great start! Hocus Pocus tells the story of 3 teenagers who go and explore an abandoned house which is surrounded with superstition and old wives tales. They soon find out the stories weren’t fictional. Hocus Pocus combines traditional Halloween vibes with a great cast and an iconic soundtrack.

Almost 30 years after the first film, Hocus Pocus 2 was released this year. The 2nd film sees the same main cast return to reprise their roles. The modern sequel is arguably even better than the first so be sure to follow up the first with this one. Both can be watched on Disney+.

3) Halloween series

If you are looking for something more scary then be sure to check out the 13 films within the Halloween Franchise. The latest addition to the series is Halloween Ends which was released this year. This film continues on in the series but can also be watched individually. When a young man is accused of murdering the boy that he was babysitting it leads to violence and terror like never seen before. Catch this film in the cinemas or stream on Peacock.

4) Ghostbusters Afterlife

A twist on a classic, Ghostbusters Afterlife was released in 2021. If you enjoyed the original ghostbusters films, then you will love this! When a single mum and her family move to a new town they quickly find out that there is more to the house they inherited and their family than they first thought. With a great cast and even better effects this film will put you in the Halloween mood.

5) Scream series

Scream is definitely another one for those who like a horror. The latest film in the franchise, Scream was released this year brining the ghostface character to our screens once again. This film follows in the footsteps of the others in the franchise with plenty of blood and gore. Being a slasher film there are many gruesome and detailed death scenes. If you are not into horror or blood this is definitely one to avoid but if you like a lot of blood and jump scares, then buckle in and prepare for a great film. Stream Scream on NOW TV.

6) The Nightmare Before Christmas

You may be thinking surely it cannot be a Halloween film if there is Christmas in the title but you couldn’t be more wrong. With the well known song “This is Halloween” this stop-motion animation is a light-hearted classic that will be sure to get you in the Halloween mood. The Nightmare Before Christmas follows is set the day after Halloween and follows Jack Skellington as he and the rest of Halloween Town start to prepare for the next year of scares they realise why wait when they could take over Christmas too. If you don’t like horror and prefer a feel-good film to get you into the spooky season, then this one is for you. The Nightmare Before Christmas can be streamed now on Disney+.

7) 3 dead trick or treaters

This film takes a different approach to the more traditional Halloween films as there is no dialogue. Thats right, no words between the characters. Instead you will be immersed in a truly autumnal and spooky film that will get you in the mood for the season. This film tells the story of a paperboy who stumbles upon the graves of three murdered trick or treaters before finding a series of handwritten notes.
