5 shows to get into this summer

With hundreds of new shows coming out every year there is something for everyone no matter what you like. With summer now in full swing and uni work set to one side we all have lots more time to chill and relax. In this post I will be going through my top 5 shows to get into this summer.

Love Victor Season 2 – Disney+ / Hulu

‘Love, Victor’ is a spin of series from award winning film ‘Love, Simon’. The series follows Victor, a new student at Creekwood High on his journey tackling adjusting to a new city, family challenges and exploring his sexual orientation. Alongside victor there are lots of other characters at the school which also experience their fair share of twists and turns too!

Overall this show is a feel good romantic show which touches on some very important subjects such as coming out to family, dealing with mental health and managing relationships. Season 2 really opens up the conversation about coming out to parents and in a school environments and shows the struggles that someone doing that can face.

I would recommend this show to anyone who loved ‘Love, Simon’ but also to parents who have LGBTQ+ children as it may help them understand the perspective of their child. You can watch all of season 1 on Disney+, season 2 is currently airing with weekly episodes on Disney+ and the full series is available to stream now on Hulu.

Call The Midwife Season 10 – BBC iPlayer

‘Call the Midwife’ is a BBC Periodic drama that is now in its 10th series. The series is about the Nuns of Nonatus house as they try to help all the women of Poplar in London give birth and manage their children. This series covers real life issues that are face by millions of people in our country and across the world.

One of the things I love about this show is that it deals with real life issues as they happened chronologically. From tuberculosis outbreaks, to thalidomide and even the 1966 world cup. With 10 series and 86 episodes there is plenty to binge on this summer! All 10 series can be watched now on BBC iPlayer.

Elite Season 4 – Netflix

‘Elite’ is a Netflix original show following the lives of students at fictional school Las Encinas. The show is original in Spanish but you can watch the show with English audio and subtitles if you want to – I personally prefer the Spanish audio with English subtitles.

This series is full of drama, and explores concepts associated with teen life and also the class systems of society. The story is told in a flash forward way with all 4 series being told using two timelines. I would recommend this show to anyone who likes teen based shows as well as those who might like to increase their knowledge of Spanish. All 4 seasons can be streamed now on Netflix.

Loki – Disney+

If you love the Marvel universe or sci fi thrillers then this show is a must watch for you. This series follows Loki, Thor’s brother and God of Mischief as he is captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The TVA are a group of people whose aim is to ensure that the sacred timeline is not disturbed. Anyone that can cause a branch in the timeline is “pruned” and they disappear.

I loved this show and it has got me even more invested in the Marvel universe. You can watch all 6 episodes of Loki on Disney+. If you are interested in this show and haven’t seen anything of the other Marvel films with Loki in it then don’t worry Disney+ has you covered with their 9 minute recap- The Loki episode of Marvel Studios Legends.

Bake Off The Professionals Season 4- All 4

BOTP is the ultimate version of ‘Bake Off’! If you thought ‘Bake Off’ was the best cooking show there is then think again! BOTP brings together professional pastry chefs and bakers from around the world to compete to be crowned the Bake Off Professionals champion.

Jaw dropping showpieces and mouth watering technical challenges combined with catastrophic mistakes and structural collapses make this a show that is so entertaining. Make sure if you choose to watch this that you have snacks ready ( healthy or not, you decide) as you will be left craving some treats. You can watch season 4 on all 4 now.

I hope this post has given you some ideas of show to get into this summer. Let us know what you are doing this summer by tagging us in your posts and stories @UolStudentLife! Happy watching and have a great summer!
