This year’s Record Store Day is on Saturday the 22nd of April 2023 and will be celebrated by several shops in Lincoln and the surrounding area. If you’re unsure what it is or would like to find out more about which stores and artists are taking part, keep reading.

What is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day began in 2007 and aims to celebrate independently owned record stores by selling limited edition vinyls that won’t be found anywhere else. Over 260 stores in the UK take part and thousands more across the world.

The only way to get the limited releases is to go to the stores on the day, however, some stores will continue to sell the surplus stock after the day including on their websites after the 24th. However, once the vinyls are sold out, you won’t be able to get them again. You cannot reserve or pre-order any of the records, so if there’s something you’d really like, your best bet is to get there early!

Artists taking part this year

Many different artists take part every year, and you can find the full list of participants here, but I’ll list some of the most-wanted records you can get this year below.

  • The 1975 will have an LP, CD, and Cassette
  • Jamiroquai will be releasing ‘Live at Maida Vale’
  • Pearl Jam will have both an LP and CD available
  • Sam Fender is going to have a 7″ vinyl
  • Taylor Swift will be releasing ‘Folklore’
  • While She Sleeps will be releasing ‘SO WHAT?’ as an LP

These are just a couple of the artists who are taking part, and you should definitely take a look at the full list to see if any of your favourite artists are on there!

Artists who previously took part

Every year different artists take part, and there have been some awesome additions to the list previously, I’ll list some of my personal favourites.

  • Glass Animals took part in 2019 with ‘Zaba’ stripped and in 2022 with their single ‘I don’t wanna talk (I just wanna dance)’.
  • Stereophonics took part in 2019 with ‘Live from Dakota’
  • Childish Gambino released ‘Heartbeat’ in 2012
  • The Zombies released ‘She’s Not There’ in 2015
  • TOTO took part in 2017 with ‘Africa’

As of now, there is only one participating store in Lincoln, Back to Mono on Guildhall Street. You can visit their website here to find out more about the day and where they are. If you’re able to go further afield, there are other stores close by that you can check out:
