Small things you can do to make someone’s day

It’s Random Acts of Kindness Day and what better way to spend it than by making someone else’s day?

We are often so busy with other lives that we tend to forget about small things that could make a difference. But there are so many simple gestures we can do during day-to-day activities to brighten someone’s day. Research has shown that being kind actually makes our lives happier as it increases levels of serotonin and dopamine in our brain, so that’s a win-win to us!

I’ve prepared several suggestions on what you could do to make people around you happy so keep reading and make sure you will make use of them!

Compliment someone

Whether it is about someone’s appearance like new hairstyle or simply telling them they’re awesome at what they do, it always feels nice to hear compliments from other people! Words of encouragement and appreciation are really important and who knows, maybe the simple thing you say could actually change someone’s day? So next time you notice something you like about the person – tell them!

Start a conversation

If you see a quiet or sad person sitting alone on a lecture, or a break at work – step outside of your comfort zone and start a little chat! If you’re not sure how to break the ice when you don’t know someone, a simple ‘’how are you’’ will be enough. And who knows, maybe this little conversation could lead to a good friendship in the future.

Offer help

Helping someone is always the best way to brighten someone’s day. Whether it is by cleaning the flat with your housemate, cooking dinner together, or by helping an older person with carrying shopping bags – you can really make a difference to someone’s day. You can also pick up some extra chores if you see that your housemates feel overloaded with uni work and you happen to have some more spare time.

Surprise somebody with a gift

We don’t have to wait until birthdays or special occasions to give a nice gift to the person we like! It doesn’t have to be expensive – maybe just a cup of coffee to help someone kick off the day, or something cool you find in a local charity/vintage shop. You can also create some DIY gifts if you’re an artistic soul. Click here for a list of ideas for gifts you can make by yourself!

Say thank you

Sounds simple, but means a lot. I’m sure there are plenty of people in your life that you’re grateful for, and maybe you haven’t had a chance to tell them yet, so why not show some gratitude on Random Acts of Kindness day!

With so many ideas, you can actually start celebrating kindness every day! I hope you feel inspired now and ready to give people around you some love 🙂
