Lincoln’s city centre music scene

If you’re a student who’s into their music, the first place you’ll hear about is the university’s “Engine Shed”. It’s got some great acts on, and they’re always advertised well around campus. However, whilst this venue is a good one, it isn’t the only one of note in Lincoln’s city centre.

The Scene is best known as the only LGBTQIA+ club in the centre of Lincoln. It is, regardless of sexual orientation, a great night out and the host of some very interesting music events. If you’re a fan of the more alternative scene, this is certainly a venue you will want to keep an eye on.

On top of that, this is by far the cheapest night out I have managed to find. Advanced tickets for events regularly go at £3 (an absolute steal even in the relatively cheap landscape of Lincoln’s popular venues).

Circle Lincoln is, in my opinion, one of the lesser known venues around town. Just up from Bierkeller, it often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of things to do in Lincoln. This club deserves far more recognition, though, for the number of interesting nights it manages to pull off.

Their main business is DJ sets, but other events do pop up from time to time. If you’re really missing out on your normal quota of gigs, the Circle Lincoln Facebook page is somewhere you definitely should check out.

I don’t know if there’s a single student in Lincoln who doesn’t love a night out at Bierkeller. Although, most don’t arrive until after the main music events have finished. Bierkeller’s Umpa band (and occasional celebrity) are definitely something to get yourself down to, even if it’s only for one night.

Yes, Umpa music is up there when it comes to niche genres to enjoy, but regardless of your feelings towards it, the party atmosphere it creates makes for a memorable night out.

Last, but certainly not least, Lincoln Drill Hall holds events of all kinds – there’ll definitely be something there for everyone to enjoy. The venue has even enjoyed events held by BBC Lincolnshire, who periodically invite up and coming talent from the area to perform for visitors.

The music scene in Lincoln takes a while to uncover, and you’d be excused for thinking there wasn’t much of one at all. But travel outside the confines of campus and there are plenty of venues offering all kinds of gigs. You’re sure to find something you enjoy, I know I did.
